Lymphocytes are a type of white blood cell, making them a critical component of the immune system. There are two main types of lymphocytes: B cells and T cells. B cells produce antibodies to fight off pathogens (something that causes disease), and T cells combat infected cells and help guide the immune system’s response.
The immune system likely plays a large role in the development of ME/CFS, and some evidence points to this stemming from problems with lymphocytes. Problems with lymphocytes may help explain why people with ME/CFS have issues properly clearing an infection or toxin from their system.
